Golden Eagles shut out Brewers for fourth-straight home win

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -  The Golden Eagles struck quickly with three runs in the first inning and cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Utica Brewers on Saturday night at East Field.

Matt Portland (Northwestern)  improved to 1-0 after pitching six scoreless innings. Portland allowed three hits and struck out five. Armand Rugel (Stonehill) came on in relief and earned his third save of the year after he threw three no-hit innings. Rugel has not yielded a hit since June 23rd. Hunter McIntosh (Alabama State) fell to 2-2 but went six strong innings allowing four total runs on five hits with three strikeouts.

The Eagles were led offensively by Garrett DeGallier (Tacoma CC) who went 1-for-3 on the night with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Utica had only three hits on the night, one each from Jay Gonzalez (Auburn), Spencer Mumford (South Florida State), and Joe Gallub (Concordia, N.Y.).

Garrett DeGallier led off the bottom of the first with a single, stole second and later scored on a throwing error by the catcher Chase Livingston (Rhode Island) who was trying to pick off Bryan Ramirez (UTPA) from first base. Josh Anderson (FIU) hit an RBI single which scored Ramirez from 3rd base; Anderson would later score on a throwing error by third baseman Matt Hendricks (Rollins).

The Eagles tacked on another run in the fifth inning. Garrett DeGallier walked, stole second and then dashed home on an RBI single by Ramon Laureano (Northeastern Oklahoma A&M).

The Utica Brewers return to action tomorrow night at home against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at 7pm. Glens Falls will take on the second place Albany Dutchmen in Glens Falls, also at 7pm.
