Two Named 2017 Perfect Game/Rawlings Summer Collegiate All-Americans

Matt Pierce (L) and Christ Conley (R) have been named 2017 Perfect Game/Rawlings Summer Collegiate All-Americans.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Perfect Game/Rawlings recently recognized two Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) players as Summer Collegiate All-Americans, as Pitcher of the Year Matt Pierce (Siena) and Player of the Year Christ Conley (Canisius) were named to the Second and Third Teams, respectively.

Pierce, a native of Schenectady, N.Y., was one of five starting pitchers named to the Summer Collegiate All-America Second Team following a record-breaking summer for the Albany Dutchmen. The 6-foot-2, 234-pound right-hander established a new league single-season record for wins by going 8-1, in addition to leading the circuit with a 1.71 ERA. He struck out 26 and walked only 11 in 42.0 innings, and his 1.17 WHIP was the third-lowest in the PGCBL in 2017.

Conley returned to Jamestown, N.Y., to play for the Jamestown Jammers for a second consecutive summer in 2017 and the catcher did not disappoint. The two-time West Division All-Star and two-time All-PGCBL honoree added Player of the Year to his crowded mantle by setting a few records of his own. The Derby, N.Y., native set new single-season highs with 51 walks and a .582 on-base percentage, while ranking second in the league with a .382 average and pacing all qualified players with a .610 slugging percentage. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Canisius Golden Griffin guided the Jammers to the West Division regular-season title a berth in the 2017 PGCBL Championship Series.

Not only were Pierce and Conley honored for their outstanding efforts on the diamond this summer, but the duo led all of the 2017 Summer Collegiate All-Americans in their respective record-setting statistical categories. Pierce led all 32 pitchers named on the First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention teams with his eight victories, while Conley all 40 position players with his .582 on-base percentage.

About the PGCBL
The Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League is a 13-team summer collegiate baseball league in Upstate New York. Since its inaugural season in 2011, the PGCBL – which annually draws talent from some of the best NCAA, NAIA, and junior college programs – has quickly evolved into the premier wood bat league in the state of New York, while becoming one of the most widely respected summer leagues in the country. The PGCBL is affiliated with Perfect Game, the nation’s largest independent amateur scouting bureau. Last year, there were more than 1,500 players in the pros who either wore the uniform of a PGCBL team or participated in a Perfect Game event. For more information, please visit www.pgcbl.com.
