Former MLB All-Star Tommy John will headline Elmira's third annual Hot Stove Dinner.
ELMIRA, N.Y. — The Elmira Pioneers, along with the Hillard Corporation and the Elmira Business Institute, are excited to announce that former MLB pitcher Tommy John will be a special guest at the third annual Elmira Pioneers Hot Stove Dinner.
The dinner will take place on April 20 at the Holiday Inn Riverview, located at One Holiday Plaza, at 6:30 p.m. and tickets will cost $50. Tommy John will host a speaking engagement following dinner, which will end with a question and answer session. After the speaking engagement, there will be a live auction, which will include Tommy John memorabilia along with many other items, in addition to door prize giveaways.
Prior to the dinner at 5:30 p.m., there will be a one hour VIP meet and greet, with tickets costing $50. The ticket includes a free item for Tommy John to autograph, personalized photo opportunities, free autographs and personalized autographs up to two items, and special door prize giveaways.
Tickets to the VIP meet and greet and the dinner and speaking engagement will be sold separately. Tickets can be purchased for either or both events by visiting the Pioneers’ front office at 546 Luce Street or calling (607) 734-2690.
The special guest of the event, Tommy John, is a 26-year MLB veteran who made four All-Star Teams, won 288 games, and struck out over 2,000 batters. John played for six teams during his career, including the Angels, Athletics, Dodgers, Indians, White Sox, and Yankees. He captured three pennants, two with the Dodgers and one with the Yankees. He’s perhaps best known for the famous surgery named after him. John was the first patient to receive the procedure from Dr. Frank Jobe, who gave John a one-in-100 chance of returning to baseball. John did more than just return to baseball after the surgery, as he would go on to play 13 more seasons and win 164 more games.
The Pioneers are excited to get the 2017 season underway. There will be spectacular postgame fireworks shows following the games on Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3. Season tickets are on sale now. In order to reserve your seat at Dunn Field this summer, visit the Pioneers’ front office at 546 Luce Street or call 607-734-2690.
