"Doc" Gooden to Headline Onondaga Flames Hot Stove Dinner

1985 Cy Young Award Winner "Doc" Gooden will serve as guest speaker at Flames hot stove dinner.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Onondaga Flames, newest franchise in the prestigious Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL), have announced that former Mets and Yankees pitching star, Dwight “Doc” Gooden, will be the guest speaker at their inaugural hot stove dinner, presented by CNY Baseball, Inc.

The event will be held on Thursday, April 20, at the Pascale Italian Bistro at Drumlins Country Club, located at 800 Nottingham Road in Syracuse, N.Y. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will commence after a brief cocktail period. The event will be catered by Pascale Italian Bistro.

With his 98-mile-per-hour fast ball and sweeping curveball, “Dr. K”, as he was called by Mets fans, was one of the most dominant pitchers of his era. Among his accomplishments include being inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame, winning the 1984 NL Rookie of the Year and the 1985 NL Cy Young Awards after leading MLB in strikeouts in both seasons, and appearing in four All-Star Games. In 1985, Gooden pitched one of the most dominating single seasons in baseball history, leading Major League Baseball with 24 wins, a 1.53 ERA, and 268 strikeouts.

The evening will include silent auction, drawings for Flames merchandise, a 50/50 raffle, and other surprises. Proceeds from the event will benefit CNY Baseball, Inc., a charitable corporation that supports collegiate summer league baseball in central New York and manages the Onondaga Flames. Attendees will receive a free ticket to the Onondaga Flames opening game versus the Oneonta Outlaws on Friday, June 2, at Onondaga Community College Baseball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Donations for tickets are $60.00 for adults and $20.00 for children under 12. VIP ticket donations are $100.00 and include a VIP reception, where “Doc” will sign autographs, take pictures, and chat with fans. CNY Baseball, Inc. is an IRS Section 501(c)(3) charity and all donations are tax-deductible. To purchase tickets call (315) 308-0889, email or complete the order form on the Flames’ website.
